New Price List

Hörmann UK have a new Series 2000 Price List  ,with a new look front cover and details of their new Up and Over Door with PVC infill. 

Some Prices have increased many have not and some are even reduced 

Summary:

Up and Over Doors with Steel Infill

The supplementary price list published in September is carried into the new price list so there are no general price increases . A review of the range has resulted in some of the best selling doors being reduced.

Up and Over Doors with Timber infill

Around 3% increase

Up and Over Doors with GRP infill

They have completely re-aligned the list prices of this range and % increases therefore vary,some have increased some are lower .

Sectional Doors

Price increases vary from 0% on the price leading LTE range to around 2.8% on EPU and a max of 3% on part of the LPU range. Some doors have been reduced, speak to your sales contact for further information.

Operators and accessories

A modest increase of  around 1.5% applies to these products.

All prices are effective from Friday 2nd January 2009.

Thermaglide Developments

The locking joints on all Thermaglide doors are benefiting from recent developments in polymer technology. The new polymers provide increased strength which ,in conjunction with the spring loading of the straps,further improves the security of the door.The extruded top lath and linkage ensures the curtain is held firmly closed whilst the springs maintain the ideal position of the locking straps.

The straps have the addition of high density foam pads which virtually eliminate contact with the rear face of the lath during coiling of the door. Protected in this way the likelihood of contact marks to the top laths of the shutter is significantly reduced.

Novoferm Promotes from Within

Novoferm, a member of the world’s largest garage door manufacturer - Sanwa Shutter Group - has announced two internal management promotions, with effect from 1 December 2008.

Steve Dickinson is appointed as International Business Development Manager for Novoferm GmbH. Mr Dickinson joined Novoferm in June 2007 as General Manager of its UK business, based in Wilmslow, Cheshire. His new role will see him retaining overall responsibility for the UK business, as well as overseeing the Novoferm international Sales Companies across Europe. Mr Dickinson and his international business development team will be based in Werth, Germany.  Mr Dickinson commented, “I am excited by the challenge of developing partnerships with customers in markets right across Europe and helping to continue to build the Novoferm presence in all European countries. Price Increase Notification

 Having held its prices steady since January 1^st 2008 DocoDoor UK have announced an imminent price increase of around 12% to reflect the rising cost of raw materials and other inputs. Touch Up Paint

The recently launched UK painting service on Series 2000 Sectional Doors has proved to be a real success , but its already being improved !

With immediate effect all UK -painted doors will be supplied with a new two part touch -up paint pack

This will include  the paint and catalyst hardener,both in screw -top containers with mixing instructions and a brush.

The recommended mix is four parts paint to one part hardener and this provides a much better match,particularly of the gloss level,of the two part paint used to finish the doors.

This is provided as a touch-up paint to repair any small chips and scratches that may occur during installation and is not intended for any larger areas such as the edges of vertical frames.

With colour -matched frame cover profiles available why not price these int to every painted sectional sale.

Remember -Any Series 2000 Sectional Door is available painted in any RAL colour, including Black on LTE doors in just two to three weeks from order !

News Update October

 Significant member growth secures successful future of Door & Hardware Federation

Significant changes at the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) have strengthened its position as an important influence in the building industry that will help it to further support and promote its members, its annual Conference and Expo heard.

DHF members at the event learned that membership had grown by almost a third to more than 300 member companies over the past year. The federation now represents all the leading players in the industrial and commercial doors & shutters and the garage doors sectors and also represents the leading UK manufacturers of building hardware and architectural ironmongery.

During a year of important and fundamental change the DHF has seen many members of the former Association of Garage Door Specialists (AGDS) join the DHF’s newly-formed Garage Door Distributor and Installer Group.

In addition, the DHF has employed secretary Michael Skelding and secretarial team member Kay Scattergood on a full time basis, and is currently recruiting a third member for the secretarial team. Michael’s principal responsibility is to guide the DHF’s strategy on standards. They will work from the federation's headquarters office in Tamworth alongside chief executive Ian Wood who is also to assume a full time role with the federation.

DHF chairman David Whitworth told the Conference and Expo: “As we face difficult times in the construction industry, it is more important than ever that the leading trade association further strengthens its position. These changes we have put in place this year mean we will be far better placed to give our members the help and support they need.”

In particular, he said, members face the challenges of new standards and legislation, in particular the new Construction Product Regulation which is likely to be implemented in July, 2011.

“We have reached a stage in the development of the federation where we need an enlarged and more efficient secretariat and the services of employed professionals. This will ensure our members receive the greatest amount of commercial benefit from their membership and allow us to help them meet the challenges posed by environmental legislation, CE marking and compliance.

“These new arrangements will allow our secretarial team members to devote all their time and energies to one association and will also give the DHF more headroom to grow further.”

At the well attended DHF Conference & Expo, held at Loughborough University’s prestigious Sir Denis Rooke Building, delegates were able to visit a large number of trade exhibition stands which showcased best practice in the door, shutter and hardware sectors. They also attended a number of specialist workshops which covered a wide variety of hot topics, including latest legislation, third party certification, training, factory production control and sustainability, which are impacting on the industry.

Price Increase Notification

 Garador have announced a price increase of 8% on all single and double steel doors and side hinged doors as of  Monday 15th September.

Due to the unpredictability of the steel market they are not in a position to reprint the current price list, but will provide labels which can be added to the current price lists you provide to your customers.

Whilst these increases are out of their control  they have assured that should steel prices fall then the prices will be reduced as accordingly.

September 25 DHF Conference & Expo will be biggest yet

The Door & Hardware Federation’s annual Conference and Expo for the door, shutter and hardware industry promises to be its biggest and most successful yet.

Being held on Thursday, September 25 in Loughborough, the event will showcase best practice in the sector with appeal to both DHF members and non members alike.

The DHF represents all the key players in industrial and commercial doors & shutters and garage doors and also represents the leading UK manufacturers of building hardware and architectural ironmongery.

This year it increased in membership size by almost a third, largely due to the influx of companies from the Association of Garage Door Specialists (AGDS). They have joined the DHF’s Garage Door Distributor and Installer Group which will look after the interests of garage door installers and their customers.

Said DHF chief executive officer Ian Wood: “This significant expansion of the federation means we now look after a much broader range of companies in the door and hardware sector. This will make our Conference and Expo even more relevant and important to visitors.”

There will be a large number of trade stands in the conference area at Loughborough University’s Sir Denis Rooke Building, Holywell Park. Visitors will also be able to attend free specialist workshops which will cover a wide variety of hot topics, including the latest legislation, which is impacting on the industry.

This year the DHF is offering sponsorship opportunities at the event to industry suppliers to enable them to increase their profile in front of key industry figures. POWER DOORS – INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS JOIN FORCES

The two leading trade associations in the UK door and shutter industry have strengthened their influence in the market by joining forces to become a single, more powerful voice.

The Association of Garage Door Specialists (AGDS), which looks after the interests of garage door installers and their customers, have joined forces with the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF), which currently represents manufacturers and suppliers of industrial and commercial doors and shutters, garage doors and door hardware.

Julie Chester, chairman of the AGDS, said: “This initiative is an important step in the development of the AGDS. In our 15 year existence we have been extremely successful: we’ve raised standards across the garage door industry; developed a recognised, reputable brand and most importantly, established customer confidence in our members. But there’s a limit to what we can achieve with our current level of membership and with our current set up, particularly as all our committee members are volunteers, so we welcome the opportunity to team up with the DHF.

“I think we’re all aware that, thanks to the ailing property market, there may be lean times ahead. We need to work harder and shout louder to ensure that our members have the commercial advantage in what could be a tough market. Being part of a larger, industry wide association will strengthen our position and help us support and promote our members.”

For the foreseeable future, AGDS members will continue to use the Association’s logo and name, both of which are highly respected in the industry and among consumers.

David Whitworth, the Federation’s chairman, explained the thinking behind the initiative: “We currently represent the majority of the key players in industrial and commercial doors, shutters and garage doors, as well as the leading UK manufacturers of building hardware and architectural ironmongery. But we were still missing a vital link in the chain and so set out to form a Garage Door Distributor and Installer Group. However, we realised that the nucleus of this group already existed in the form of the AGDS, so it made sense to invite their members to join us and we are delighted with their positive response.

“There’s strength in numbers and I believe this initiative will benefit all our members, both old and new, and encourage other key players in the industry to join us. I’m looking forward to getting to know my new colleagues and learning about their side of the business.”

The Association of Garage Door Specialists (AGDS) was established in 1993 to develop and maintain quality of standards in the garage door industry with particular emphasis on safety and quality of workmanship of fitting. The AGDS has introduced a number of initiatives including training courses and qualifications for fitters, a business advice service and regular updates on health & safety and legislation for its 85 members.

The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) was created by a merger between the Association of Building Hardware Manufacturers and the Door & Shutter Manufacturers Association. The Federation represents the interests of manufacturers and installers of industrial, pedestrian and garage doors as well as manufacturers of locks and building hardware. Cut The Vat Campaign

Reducing the rate of VAT on domestic building work from 17.5% to 5% would reduce the commercial advantage of vat dodging traders according to a survey carried out by the FMB.

Its claimed 50% of consumers would employ a vat dodging tradesman in order to cut their costs.

With a reduction of vat on building works ,it would create a level playing field and in time drive out rogue traders , with customers focusing on quality and value not price.
